GIROTONDO - RING-AROUND-THE-ROSIE Sculpture

copy this link to watch movie on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=2yD0_9jvUYA The sculpture I made was inspired by the pictorial work "La dance" by Matisse I wondered: it is possible to transfer the great sense of movement into a sculptural work lightness that this painting can transmit? This was the departure of the compositional study, that had to reconcile the evident contrast between the material used, corten steel, (by its nature rigid and not very malleable), with the visual result that instead had to transmit lightness and movement. The technical difficulties were not trivial, but this stimulated me further to continue challenge. The choice of place is not casual. The roundabout, by its natural conformation, recalls and emphasizes the circular motif of the sculpture, and with its convex shape expresses the terrestrial globe on which the figures rest lightly. My circle, on one hand recalls our childhood experience, the purity of the game as a moment of positive sharing of emotions, on the other hand invites adults to reflect on how united we can win the most difficult challenges. The symbolic meaning of the whole refers to an order of values: the original dance here has become an encounter and then a union, where each character is called to follow a common path, holding each other by the hand. This is the message that entering the city should be perceived. It is our thought that makes the difference: a joyful and hopeful dream that perhaps only art can transmit.
