About The Artwork

The artist has set a flight plan to create imaginative works of fine art and the Galaxie is no exception. You may recognize such components as antique fire extinguishers and a distributor cap that come together to give this spacecraft a vintage quality that will blast you right back to the past. The lovely natural patina gives the sculpture a beautiful retro quality. An authentic Galaxie nameplate comes directly from that old Ford that hauled the entire family to the drive-in movies. The piece doubles as a lamp with it’s flame-action bulb. It’s all suspended on a solid antique base that used to be part of Grandma’s ancient treadle sewing machine. Each of my original sculptures is painstakingly hand-constructed and designed to make a provocative statement that compliments any modern décor. THE FINE ART OF SPACE EXPLORATION: Repurposing vintage found-objects to a high level of aesthetics is not rocket science but it does require an evolved design sense, not to mention a deep appreciation of Americana. I dedicate a great deal of attention to creating sculptures that are truly artistic and truly captivating in their ability to transport you back through the good times while simultaneously launching your imagination to a futuristic world charged with excitement. I remember as the future unfolded right before my eyes in 1968. A gigantic space station, serenaded by The Blue Danube Waltz, spun weightlessly on the movie theater screen as 2001: A Space Odyssey fixed my creative trajectory to pursue a degree in fine art, establish a life-long career in art and design and eventually to work on what I call Retro Rockets: everyday mid-century items thoughtfully transformed into beautiful sculptures wired for lighting and other effects. My mission is to convert the ordinary, not only into extraordinary spacecraft, but also into time machines to those by-gone glory-days of space exploration and adventure.
