SRAM pART PROJECT transforms bike parts into art that makes a difference and a big splash, too. The proceeds help people in need through World Bicycle Relief. For the New York City event, 90 noted artists will contribute original pieces created from SRAM components – including, for the first time, works of collage as well as sculpture. The artworks will be featured in a juried gallery exhibition, then sold at a gala live auction event. One hundred percent of the proceeds will be donated to World Bicycle Relief. In this work I used wood, metal, and plastic. For me, these materials are symbolic: wood is a symbol of purity - Mother Nature - untouched by human hands; metal and plastic - are both symbols of industrialization - symbols of human intervention into the natural course. By working with these materials, I tried to blur the contradicting nature of those materials and symbols in an attempt to create something harmonious and balanced. My goal was to demonstrate that nature and man can co-exist, and that human intervention in nature may not always be fatal.
