Gold Heart EL 7 Sculpture

Handmade paper heart made from gold-stamped white tissue. Insert cut-out heart is from gold holographic foil and backed with fine gold mesh. The insert heart is decorated with faux seed pearls and tiny gold metallic rhinestones. Heart edges are finished with gold foil. Hanger is gold gauze ribbon with wooden bead. Back is made with gold crepe that is lacqued and sprinkled with glitter. Overlay heart is cut from embossed gold foil with fine white tissue edge. Cut out is backed with gold organza. Lacquered with gold fairy dust. 25cm w x 24 cm h ca 4 cm deep 62g 1.85oz with box 248g 8.76oz Every time I walked to the clinic, there was glorious paper screaming for redemption from the paper bins. It was impossible to resist, but I was unable to hold the paper to cut it as nerve from shoulder into hand were ruptured. so rather than howling at moon during the long agonizing nights, I struggled with paper. Unlike eggs, it doesn't break. you can drop it on the floor and it will basically remain in one piece even if you can't pick it up. The first things were birds and fish that I made with right hand. It kept me away from computer and silent. I could work all night to ease the pain and something pretty was made. I tried making boxes and made lousy boxes. I tried many different things for molds and after many many months, I could tie shoes and button large buttons. I have some use of left hand, but not sustained. I cannot close the left hand and there is no grip, therefore paper is an ideal medium as it doesn't break. It's not ideal in that it's can be terribly painful for me to hold. I found a small heart dish that made great mold and later two other sizes were added. It takes about 3 weeks to make a heart from beginning to end, so usually the work is done in stages. The paper for mold is generally recycled, but as I gained control, materials became more sophisticated and selective for finishing. Each is different.
