About The Artwork
In 2003 a great white shark was tagged off the coast of South Africa, 99 days later she was tracked to Western Australia, then in 2004 she resurfaced back in Gansbaai, South Africa. The nine month journey of nearly 14,000 miles revolutionised our understanding of these largely illusive predators, and earned the shark the nickname 'Nicole'. With the help of the very scientists who studied Nicole's journey I've created an exact size and shape sculpture of her dorsal fin. Standing just under 50cm tall this life size sculpture is made from aluminium and is appropriately mounted in a base of recycled Australian hardwood. All handmade with painstaking attention to detail in terms of size and shape this striking fin is a thought provoking piece.

I was born in Warrington in the UK in 1977 and live in Shropshire in England. I work with metal and recycled wood and am motivated by bringing the size and majesty of wildlife to sculpture. I want my artwork to tell the stories of the natural world and to bring a sense of scale to whoever views it. The shark fins are where it all began, and I’ve had success selling them to one or two shark experts around the world and via one of them I’ve even sold one to a Saudi Sheikh. I do genuinely feel privileged that people like my work and share my passion.
