Art Description

Sculpture: LED, Wood, Acrylic, mirror on Plastic, Wood, Other.

The Halo series takes inspiration from the natural occurring halo phenomena in nature. Halos form when ice crystals are captured in cirrus or cirrostratus clouds and align to act like prisms. The refracted light forms a ring of white light or is dispersed into a spectrum of colors.
As an artist I create many light-based sculptures and became interested in the luminescence of halos. I chose colored and mirror acrylic to portray halos for its ability to filter color and light and the near endless color-combinations that are available. Halo (gold and grey) combines two types of acrylic: a semi translucent grey toned acrylic with mirror gold. The acrylic has been laser cut and mounted with 1" stand offs on a 30 x 30 x 2" wood panel. The center gold circle is raised 1.5" above a LED spotlight and 4000K natural white LED tape surrounds the outer circle to create a halo effect. A on/off rocker switch has also been installed at the bottom right for convenience and a dimmer may be requested at no additional cost. The lights connect to a 30W driver and all components are fully certified: Listings: CE, RoHS, CSA., Conforms to UL standard 8750MFG, Class 2 NEC complaint, contains no mercury, emits no damaging ultraviolet/infrared (UV/IR) radiation.
