About The Artwork

As an Artist I love taking worn and broken tools and machine parts and giving them a second life as part of something beautiful. My route to becoming an artist was a happy accident. My brother's 21st birthday was fast approaching and I wanted to give him a present that was truly unique. His two passions are cars and guitars so it occurred to me that I could make a guitar out of classic car parts. I discovered I had a talent for creating sculptures but it wasn't till years later that i decided to pursue sculpture as an artist. In 2017 I was finally brave enough to take on a challenge that excited and scared me in equal measure. Had my skills and artistic talent improved enough over the years to allow me to create a new guitar sculpture? A sculpture that is not only significantly different form my original design but also a sculpture that shows how my artistic eye and use of tools and parts has developed over several years. I'm pleased to say that I am thrilled with end result. "Heavy Metal" is incredibly different from my earlier work and was only possible because of new techniques and skills I have developed over the years. Heavy metal is on display in the Atholl Gallery, Scotland and is also available to purchase through Saatchiart.com. www.sburkemckay.com

S Burke McKay is a young emerging talent, based in Angus in the north east of Scotland. Every metal sculpture is a blend of new and old reclaimed metal from car and other vehicle parts. Working mainly on commissions for special occasions, he blends the old and the new to produce unique, stylish, quirky pieces that quickly become much treasured by family and friends. Signature designs include his stunning bespoke metal guitars and the much loved beast, the Scottish Highland cow, but he can work to almost any brief that creatively combines metal and old vehicle parts – wonderful, imaginative results are inevitable!
