This listing is for one Ceramic Raku Japanese Tōrō , or Garden Lantern. It is painted in a wonderfully expressive Wild style manner, with Gold and blues and just simply delectable. It is large enough to fit a tea candle. Very unique. This comes in two pieces, which connect and can be secured further with epoxy or glue. This is my take on a Edo Era tōrō, a Japanese garden Lantern. I love the Asymmetry of it, the Blance long on one side, with the Counter Balance on the Cover. It is simple, elegant, minimal. It will bring a taste of a Japanese garden into your home! Please note, it is Decorative, and a bit small to place a candle in. The tōrō is an emblematic symbol of Japan, it is found in myriad shapes and forms throughout the country. This one is based on a style called a nozura-dōrō, which is a Rustic style lantern popular in the Edo Era of Japan. This lantern comes in two parts, and is suitable for use as a Candle Holder. If fits a tea light very nicely. Lighting a tōrō is considered an offering to the Buddha.They are a popular element in Shinto style Japanese gardens. This is an example of a Dai Toro, or Platform Lantern. They are often seen lining the pathway to a Shinto shrine. The bottom piece, touching the ground, represents the Chi, or Earth, the middle part represents water. The next section is that which houses the fire, the top sections represent Air and Spirit.
