About The Artwork

LED Light and Sand-Blasted Plexiglass. Surrounded by integrated thin-aluminum edges. Flat sculpture for wall-mounting. Electrical compatibility with all countries (110-240 volts). This artwork is created using high quality materials for permanence, and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Unlike my other Light Art which remains a static color, this piece is dynamically changing through a wide range of colors, like a 'pulse'. You can see better quality photos of some of the colors, and a video of the pulsing effect, on my site at www.LeoJahaan.com (the artwork can also optionally be displayed in a single color). Please note the plexiglass is transparent, therefore the wall behind the artwork remains visible. If your wall is not a neutral color then you can obtain a mat from a framing store to place behind the work. This artwork depicts the human nervous system – at first it’s difficult to comprehend the sections to the left and right of the head as being human, however this shows the facial nerves when flattened to a 2D surface. The design of this artwork is based on an engraving first published by Sir Charles Bell almost 200 years ago. Bell was one of the first to conduct an in-depth study of the pathways of the nervous system. One can only imagine his surprise if he could have seen this modern interpretation, the result of his studies depicted as a life-sized internally-lit pulsating object. The title “Indirect Realism” refers to a philosophical position that proposes “our conscious experience is not of the real world itself but of an internal representation”, “we do not and cannot perceive the external world as it really is but know only our ideas and interpretations of the way the world is”, and “our ideas of the world are interpretations of sensory input”. Jerry Saltz, the prominent New York art critic, wrote: "Leo, You are amazing! The piece is beautiful; we love having it", after acquiring one of Jahaan's artworks for his own collection. These timeless pieces from Leo Jahaan make a fantastic addition to any contemporary art collection.
