About The Artwork
Growing up in South Africa, I spent long hours watching and engaging with elephants in bushveld. These majestic animals are endangered through both illegal hunting and the destruction of their natural habitat. Over 20,000 are killed every year. I use the language of anamorphosis in this work to share the plight of these beautiful creatures. Anamorphosis in has a long history. The first known anamorphic sketch of an eye was found in found Leonardo Da Vinci’s notebook (folio 35 of the Codex Atlanticus) c.1485.
