Art Description

Sculpture: 3D Sculpting on Bronze.

The inspiration for the series, "In The Mourning" is twofold. I was inspired by the poem by William Stafford called “Roll Call” in which a Black Footed Ferret stands with hands folded encircled by other animals who are nearing or already on the endangered species list. He begins his eulogy...“Dearly Beloved.” The other inspiration was the exhibition, “The Mourners – Tomb Sculptures from the Court of Burgundy" at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Here I found a long processional of medieval mourners. By combining this element of mourning from the past with the current trend to the future (animal extinction), I have created a series of animal/human hybrid bronze sculptures. They range in height from 2.75” to 7” tall. They are all in editions of 5 and cast in bronze. I hope viewers will find empathy for (wild) animals in these sculptures.
