About The Artwork

Kawaiii can be translated as "cute". It is such a strong culture among the Japanese that all prefectures have their own Kawaii mascot. Elements of this type are embedded in many Gyaru sub-styles. You can check a VIDEO TOUR, but you'll need to copy and paste this link because Saatchi doesn't allow direct links: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCPv1AintdI --->This Babydoll video tour was filmed at the opening of the exhibition that took place in Sao Paulo in October 2017. MORE ABOUT BABYDOLL Cinthya Verri, 38, is a visual artist, physician, playwright, writer and communicator. Her action is marked by contemporaneity and the exploitation of unprecedented biases. In the project "Baby Doll - Every woman can be a doll", she uses mosaic works, painting on paper, cloth and leather to evoke two tendencies of behavior peculiar to Japan, which will certainly provoke a wide discussion about affectivity and sexuality: Dutch Wives and Gyaru. DUTCH WIVES are ultra-realistic silicone mannequins. The dolls have options of face and hair and already come from the factory with some pieces of clothing and lingerie so that the owner does not have to be embarrassed in the trade. Some years ago, it has been observed that some men assume a loving and sexual relationship with their dolls. GYARU is the name of a subculture of Japanese youth where teenage girls make caricatures of female stereotypes into "living dolls." In the early 1990s, high school girls with brown hair, short school skirts and artificially tanned skin clung to European luxury purses and wearing Burberry scarves were spotted. Thus were born the Gyaru (Japanese pronunciation of the word derived from the English girl: "gal"). https://www.instagram.com/p/BaHRICijkPb/?taken-by=cinthyaverri
