Kintsukuroi Lamp Sculpture

The Japanese art of Kintsukuroi is the art of repairing broken pottery with gold. The brokenness is repaired in such a way that makes the object even more beautiful than it was before it was broken. It is a long and difficult process, but the true life of the pottery begins “after it is broken”. The Japanese believe that when something has suffered damage and has a history, it becomes more beautiful. These one of a kind handmade lamps are made from mending broken pottery in such a way that the light from within comes out through the cracks, like glowing gold – a true and humble tribute to the Japanese art and a reminder to all of us that we too, like this pottery, suffer damage and pain in our lives, which sometimes leaves us broken but it is again those cracks, lines, chips and breaks in our life that make us beautiful and far more valuable to ourselves and to the world, for it is only from the cracks in us that our inner light comes out. We are strongest and brightest where we are broken. Every piece is carefully done with attention to details and number of cracks. Every piece breaks differently and is different from any other, making one more connection to its human symbolism - no two of us are alike, and neither are or sufferings and our stories of overcoming them.
