Kokomo Sculpture

Kokomo is a pedestal-sized painted steel sculpture. It is fabricated (welded from 18 ga. sheet steel), primed with metal primer, and then painted with Novacolor Acrylic mural paints. Finally, it is coated with 2 coats of Modern Masters Exterior Dead Flat UV Inhibitor. Kokomo began as a vertical sculpture, but I felt that it was going to become a cliche. I try not to make sculpture that is predictable, so I began looking at the developing piece as a horizontal sculpture. It has an unusual kind of stance, which I like. It really does an interesting dance as you walk around it. To me, it has quite a bit of monumentality to it; I can imagine it being big enough to climb on.
