About The Artwork

This work was exposed in lard art exhibiton in Reunion Island in 2015. Project “La lumière” represents the light of this island. It is an offer and harmonizing to the Reunion Island. I have been interested in the lights in this island which are very different in south, west, north and east. Since 2009, I have been working and researching natural materials in the island but for this project, I use my general material copper (which is symbol of light) and beads. Structure can be swaung slightly harmanizing into the frequence of the space. I would like to share the light with people here. It means that we are reflecting each other and communicate like a lot of tiny mirrors of light universe object each other. It is the life and harmony while we are living in this adventurous life. That is what I pay attention in a daily life and that’s what I would like to learn from any circumstances. And that’s the intention what I put into the work. The whole complex is devoted to the concept of land art. Getting close to art can be a really enriching experience for everybody. A movement in contemporary art that uses settings and materials with the aim of arousing emotions in the spectator who faces up to the landscape. Exploring land artwork in certain level of art, it means this Arts challenges me to take my work to higher level through rigorous practice and exchange of ideas with an engaged and diverse artistic and local community. I would like my artwork evolving and gaining a deeper understanding of the dynamic relationships among materials, art, culture, and society.

MASAMI is an international Japanese artist based in Réunion Island. She dedicates for Landart, indoor and outdoor installation, sculpture, painting, photograph, poem, weaving and dying. =Artist Statement= The benevolently fierce blaze of the sun, Liberating an inextinguishable cycle of life abundantly Complex then simple as perception evolves one life force in cosmic tango while the benevolent sun vigilantly nourishes all To create my artwork, I like to experiment. For me, this is the life force: a transition between the aggressive material which is the human life and the brightness of every human spirit. This is not just about my art process; it is also my way of life. I believe in purity of life force which can not be spoiled. This pureness touches us and takes us into many hearts. It evokes and brings peace into minds while generating life’s dynamic energies. My research is usually about this sense of life force, but most importantly, it is about focusing on the hidden power of art and its immortality. My preoccupations are tied to my perception of the universe and my interest, which began in my childhood, continues to grow on a daily basis. How come amazing forces repeatedly ge¬nerate, maintain and destruct in the universe and in our life, inexorable processes with both beneficial and detrimental ef¬fects? We are ignoring the natural meanings of the universe and the essential functionalities of life and soul, transforming our daily life into one dominated by aggressiveness, stress and inward tension. My relation to the universe deeply personal. It builds itself ins¬tinctively in my relation to space: the space of the forest, mountain, river, field and sea, and my artwork proliferates from that gestation. The resulting artworks explore installation, sculpture, dying and weaving, painting and calligraphy, including artistic interven¬tion which I have just recently started to discover. I work between the terrains of modern art and tradition. My ar¬twork is guided by my admiration of the genuine traditional art in my home country of Japan, as well as abroad. The authentic creations show and represent strength, beauty, aesthetic awa¬reness and the very primitive senses of nature. These inspire me and give me the necessary strength to create. I am compelled to be united with them; they are indespensible to me.
