This sculpture is a relief in a wood box frame with museum glass covering (minimal reflection). The inspiration is the Old Testament Psalm 24:7 "Lift up your heads, O gates, And lift them up, ancient doors, That the King of glory may come in" (AMP). Cf. the psalm "Lift up yours heads, ye mighty gates" (Eng. translation Catherine Winkworth 1853; German original by Georg Weissel 1642: Mach hoch die Tür), and Händel, The Messiah, "Lift up your heads, O ye gates". It mostly means Open your hart and let Him come in. In ancient times when a city was seized and the doors released, they were lifted off their hinges and placed on the ground to make passage easy (and to prevent easy re-closing). Here the doors open outwards, and are not so easy to lift from their hinges. The gate is red as our blood, and His, The King of glory. Even before his advent we know his life ends in the crucification, the black stripes indication of the cross. The ultramarine color between doors and gate is what he points to: The fulfilled life here, and there.

Between childhood and my children's childhood I nearly never was creative in this way. But then, when my children began to play with clay and plaster, I returned to the creative arts. First, I worked with and attended classes in clay figure modelling. Then I also worked with more or less abstract sculpture making in paper clay, wood, plaster, resins - and got occupied with mould making in silicones and castings in plaster and resins. Also, a few works of paintings. Born 1951. Living in central Copenhagen, Denmark.
