About The Artwork

Efe -II, Signed 20 Edition/2nd Silver plated bronze. I did the ''Zeybek'' sculpture series to emphasize gender equality. Zeybek is a Turkish folkloric dance usually men participate. A common name for Zeybek dancers is ''Efe'' which also means brave person and used for men. I started this group with first women and named Efe to inspire Turkish women to empower themselves and have self confidence again. Zeybek is also a 3D reproduction of Mattisse Dancers, reproducted with gender equality. My other sculpture series ''Anatolian Women'' has the same inspiration focusing on women who live countryside of Turkey. You can see Anatolian Women series on my Etsy page too. Please see below the inspiration story and history below. Inspiration Story: Anatolia today is considered a geography encompassing the boundaries of the Republic of Turkey. Because of its strategic location at the intersection of Asia and Europe, Anatolia has been the center of several civilizations since prehistoric times. Neolithic settlements include Çatalhöyük, Çayönü, Nevalı Çori, Hacılar, Göbekli Tepe, and Mersin. "Woman, who is probably considered to be sacred in societies due to the continuation of human offspring, remained at the forefront for a long time in Anatolia, and her existence dates back to BC 8th century. With the influence of the Sami tribes, namely Arabs, in the Anatolian geography, it is seen that women started to stay in the second place in the society. However, this effect manifests itself only in the southeast of Anatolia. The position of women, which is seen as the dominant power in Anatolian societies except the southeastern part, continued until the spread of Islam to Anatolia. "
