Born January 14th, 1989 in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised in Accra, Ghana, Ato Ribeiro is the youngest of three boys born to Nana Ribeiro and Linda Edith-Young Ribeiro. Ato relocated to Atlanta, Georgia in 2002 to attending Riverwood high school for its strong AP/IB, performing and fine arts programs. He remained active during these years in the Heritage Sandy Springs Art community through volunteer work as well as showcasing his drawings and paintings in a number of student art shows including the SPAVA show (2005), the Heritage Sandy Springs 15th & 16th Annual Student Art Show (2005 & 2006), and the Roswell Fine Arts Alliance and Roswell Visual Arts Splash Show (2006) to name a few. He later attended Morehouse College in the fall of 2007 where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts. Under the guidance of Christopher Hickey, Jessica Scott-Felder, Louis Delsarte and the late Charles Huntley Nelson (1970-2009) and Frank Toby Martin (1951- 2012), Ato continued to participate in numerous local and national art shows through the years for his prints, drawings and sculptures. In 2012, Ato showed his Anansi Series, consisting of drawings and sculptures based on the Ghanaian folktales of Anansi the Spider. Today Ato resides between Accra and Atlanta and is working on a new body of work entitled Forever Young, pertaining to Sankofa and standing on the shoulders of the giants within his family tree. In the Fall of 2105, he will attend the Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan to earn his MFA as a member of the school's graduating class of 2017.
