About The Artwork

Steel Table Sculpture - representing a continuous flow of Energy. Developing the sculpture I concentrated on the process of using repetitive form of material - flat steel rings, to generate concepts and capture the movement of elemental reactions. While the other sculptures in the collection represent physical elemental states that we are familiar with, 'Loop’ is my own interpretation of energy itself. This piece has a beautiful dark lustre to it which is achieved through heating and oiling the steel, then finishing it with renaissance wax. All my sculptures are hand made, each Loop sculpture has been made to be unique. They differ in size, shape and in the finish of the steel. I am happy to make similar sculptures, sized and finished to suite your space.

Working predominantly in metals, I create an eclectic range of sculpture and contemporary furniture. Highly aesthetic in nature, you will find much of my work curvaceous and tactile, but with a coarseness that is lent from working with bare steel or stainless steel. My style ranges from figurative to abstract and is always in context with its environment. My current collection "˜Elements' focuses on Earth, Air, Water and Fire, and describes the reaction of when those elements meet. Developing the collection I concentrated on the proccess of using repetitive form of material - flat steel bar, to generate concepts and capture the movement of elemental reactions. The forms are designed appropriately for indoor display, but are perfectly suited to larger scale and outside installations for private or public spaces. http://www.philipmelling.co.uk http://www.artquid.com/artist/philipmelling/philip-melling.html htt
