About The Artwork

"Love Arrows" are two sculptures of a larger wall installation. The project is made in 2004 in the EKWC (European Ceramic Center, Den Bosch, The Netherlands) The duality of life and death is an essential component of this project and of all my installations. "Love Arrows" includes two contrasting modular forms. --- The first, the light forms of cast porcelain naturally solidified, are associated with the life, the femininity, the creative nature, the seed, one-day butterflies, egg-shells... --- In the second the heavy, imperfect endless spirals, hand modeled of black manganese oxide, are associated with death and perdition, the male strength, burned roots, polluted sea weeds, excrements,... This installation is made up of several compositions each adapted to the available space assigned to me. Clay can be found everywhere, it lends itself like textiles to model an idea and has by itself no money value, but making an ceramic object requires a complex equipment and enormous know-how. The photographs shows possible combinations of modular forms. There are about 10 spirals between 40-60 cm and 10 free poured porcelain sheets between 10 and 20 cm. The spirals have on both sides a hole to be pinned on the wall. The spiral can be threaded through the holes of the porcelain as if it were a bead and then hangs loose out of itself.

Born in 1949 San Sebastian, Spain, lives in Netherlands and France - Large Conceptual Installations - New projects each year - Light & heavy materials - Unconventional techniques developing works passing over the borders of sculpture and painting - Project books with special layouts - Active in many countries. My esthetic standpoint is based on the duality between life and death. Therefore in each of my projects I choose materials out of two types, either light translucent or heavy opaque ones. Among the first ones are light textile materials, as gauze, rice paper, tracing paper, organza, the second type includes lead, sea salt, wood, charcoal, porcelain and stone. I have developed my projects in the numerous places where I lived; they reflect my nourishment with the local cultures as well as the spiritual significance of the installation site. Six or seven process steps make up every project: from identifying the concept and suitable installations spaces, through the transformation of poor materials into poetic objects, to the final design and the production of books about the realization of the art work.
