About The Artwork

Based on his LOVE painting series Lex Ubbink designed the 'LOVE Art Chair', which combines primary forms (the square, the rectangle, the circle and the triangle) with primary colors (red, yellow, blue) and which appeals to one of our primary feelings: LOVE! Lex Ubbink is in his paintings inspired by the colors and compositions of the De Stijl art movement (and above all by Piet Mondriaan and Bart van der Leck) but also by Pop Art artists like Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and -in particular regarding his LOVE painting series- by Robert Indiana. De Stijl movement started in 1917, and included designs like the iconic (red blue) Gerrit Rietveld chair (Rietveld joined the movement in 1918), which chair was designed, published and completed in its final design and primary colors around 1918-1923. So about 100 years later the ‘LOVE Art Chair’ can be seen as some kind of celebration in honor of this art movement! LOVE Art Chair, registered at the Bureau for Intellectual property of the European Union, EU-model with registration number 004350775.

Lex Ubbink lives in The Netherlands and is painting in oil, looking for a perfect balance in color and composition. In 2009 he created his "LOVE" series, in which the letters L O V E transform to primary forms: rectangle (L), circle (O), triangle (V) and square (E), one and another in the primary colors 'Red, Yellow and Blue'. The series consists of several works (oil on canvas). Another series "Colors" consist of 3 works (oil on canvas). Completed at the end of 2012 are 2 works "Windmill in Red Yellow Blue" and "Typical Dutch Windmill". Based on his LOVE series he created between 2010 and 2013 a NUDES series, in which the primary forms in primary colours were combined with the contour lines of nudes. Between 2010 and 2016 a lot of pixel art paintings were created, based on iconic pictures (like New York) and iconic celebrities. Latest (group)exposition: "Signs all over" September 4 - October 3, 2010 About graphics, language, signs and symbols. Hilversum, The Netherlands, ISM gallery, organised by the Magdalena Foundation
