Art Description

Sculpture: Fiberglass and Found Objects on Canvas.

Bangles and Beads on Canvas | 6 panels of 24" x 12" each

This series of mine called "Unbreakable Talisman" is an exploration of the concept of talisman, evil eye and lucky eye. The black bangles seen in all the compositions have been traditionally used by many Indians to ward off the evil eye. The smallest bangles are meant for infants while the larger ones, available in various sizes, are meant for children and adults.
A talisman, or good luck charm, is an object that is supposed to produce a positive effect on the wearer or owner while averting misfortune by negating the effect of the evil gaze. This is an age old belief and its appeal has not diminished even in contemporary times. Call it sentiment, superstition or tradition the talisman is often a souvenir that represents, and at the same time controls, a range of emotions.
