About The Artwork

Elegant tree sculpture of two limbs making way for a third main trunk to grow. I find myself making these trees because the taper and spiral of the metal makes me happy, as I turn pull and push the bar across the anvil of the trip hammer, foot on the treaddle, eye on the prize, evenly tapping the steel and turning it in one direction to make a spiral as it's pulled, releaving the foot treadle gently so the tip isn't smashed flat. The spirals are free formed on an anvil, sometimes bent using forks. I also enjoy the process of putting the sculptures together, each one's different due to the different size and shaped pieces I make, although I alter or make specific pieces durring the welding process as well. I'm focused not only on the subject matter, but on the negative space as well. Made of quality scrap steel, hand forged using blacksmithing techniques, and welded together. The minimal, finished piece is cleaned and coated with a special acrylic based paint filled with metal dust, I spray or brush one, or mix a combination of copper, brass, or bronze. While the paint is wet it can be patinaed quickly using acids which are sprayed on, this bring out natural colors those metals change due to oxidization over time. I love the organic nature of the colors, and the seemingly random patterns that occur due to the amount of metal, and the amount of acid, type of acid, and how long its left on before its neutralized, or the paints dry. It can still evolve in color, flake, and rust more, but the clean starting surface, primer paint, and quality insurance of sculpt neuvous products durability put the paint life at 20 years outside. If it's coated with enamel every so often that helps keep it from flaking, fading, or oxidizing more. Outdoor, or indoor sculpture, which could be useful for many things I havnt even thought of. Please Enjoy! Keywords: outside, plants, ribbon, spiral, twisted, flora, garden, gold, green, leaves, nature, outdoor

By traveling parts of the United States and a few other countries, I have gained much through lived experiences. There are many places I'd like to visit, and much more I'd like to learn. I have created metal sculptures throughout the years and in various locations. I take pleasure in many other activities such as crafts, trades, research, painting, tagging, writing, thinking of screenplays, hiking, camping, visiting with friends, playing or watching people play music, making art, and spending time with family. I deeply enjoy being connected with nature, growing things, and watching them grow. . . this is medicine in and of itself - soil isn't dirty, we spend time in the dirt to be clean, I believe. I love making organically shaped, nature-inspired, and funky sculptures using steel, iron, and metallic paints. I dream of using glass to incorporate elements of mystery and liquid in contrast to the solid metal textures. I've developed my own methods and processes of carving metal with a cutting torch, while touching my face and head for anatomical reference and to stimulate my imagination. Using this technique, I have carved faces, heads, and mystical creatures inspired by observing the shapes of my own body. I have made furniture and garden art, swords, knives, shovels, garden hoes, fire pokers, scythes, pickaxes, fantasy weapons, and all sorts of things during what I call an experience of "art addiction."
