Sculpture, Metal on Bronze
Size: 18 W x 15 H x 6 D in
Ships in a Crate
This sculpture has been created after studying how hay can cling to itself and hold shape, this has then recreated using steel rods. A branch cast in bronze has been used as an amiture and created a contrast to the steel, while also bringing a natural element back into the sculpture. Material and Process has always been the foundation on which I have based my sculpture. Using techniques that are hard to control or leaving time and natural elements to shape and form a sculpture, by doing this I feel I can remove the conscious thought process behind making shape and form, making decisions on what is in front of me and the feeling it evokes. My day job as a foundry man involves controlling and hiding a lot of the skill and processes involved in making a finished sculpture, as a result I like to leave parts and flaws of the making process as part of the sculptures I make for myself. Since leaving Art college I have been involved for the last 20 years making sculpture and other objects in metal, mostly Bronze and Steel, for myself, other artists and designers, from small gallery pieces to over 5 ton bronze monumental work. In 2008 I set up my own fine art Foundry (Milwyn Casting) which I run to this date. 2016 is proving to be a busy year for my sculpture. At the start of the year I was made an MRBS. I have exhibited at The Other Art Fair in Bristol and London, showing an experimental interactive hay sculpture at both. 2017 is looking to be just as busy, as in Febuary I will be designing and curating and Exhibtion about Bronze titled Making Bronzes ‘A modern day art foundry at work’ at the Lightbox Gallery, Woking
