'Marin des Étoiles'. (Star Sailor). 'He took us sailing as children, amongst the stars.' My Aunt Carolyn was an activist/journalist against apartheid in South Africa in the 60's and 70's. She bought back many African objets d'art, in particular wall masks, with which I was fascinated. It will be a wrench to let this one go. And the sculpture.... He belongs to those who look up, see, and wonder at those distant Suns in our night skies. He belongs to those who are able to see beyond the immediate, material and physical constraints of the world that we have built around ourselves. He tells us to never lose sight of that questioning child that lives inside of all of us. Paper/plaster and resin on steel and copper. Ready to hang. Sculpture signed and dated on reverse.

I am Eddy and I was born in 1970 to working class parents in Surrey, England. Much of my influence in my sculpture arrived from happy times as a child at my Aunts's house, who as a journalist reporting on the horror of Apartheid in South Africa, had amassed and brought back a wonderful collection of African wall masks and figurines. I was absolutely enthralled by these exotic and beautiful works of art. From this exposure to African art I am certain, comes my interest in Ethnic and Contemporary Modern Art, and many do comment on an African influence seen in the nature of my works. I am a keen photographer, and am most interested in landscape, portrait and still life photography. Light, energy and nature are themes that I keep returning to.
