Sculpture, Wood on Wood
Size: 6 W x 16 H x 5 D in
Ships in a Crate
Carved out of a piece of dead Yew tree. A beautiful tree that takes many years to grow. Its very sad to see a dead Yew tree. The wood should never be wasted and you have to give it your best when a piece comes your way. Its not an easy wood to carve and can be hard with many knots in it, but its grain and beauty is fitting of the tree it came from. So lots of time and effort was put into this carving. Not quite blood sweat and tears but I did cut my finger quite badly whilst doing this

I hate writing about me, to be honest. I love to do art but I call myself a craftsman. I find art strange. You can convey things in art without realizing that you are doing it. That's got to be its golden value because it expresses more than words or consciousness can, it goes deep. I had art all around me ever since the age of 5 years old. My first memory of sculpture was when I managed to knock one of my fathers favorite woodcarving chisels 3 inches into a mortar joint on a brick wall. I learnt to run fast very shortly after that. My first carving work was when I was 10 years old when I did a slate grave stone for our dog. I was hooked on sculpture after that. Life took some unusual twists and turns, some of it happy and some of it not. I have learnt and evolved and in doing so have actually become a simpler person. Sounds odd but when I felt I had learnt enough to know what I wanted in life I ended up wanting nothing. What my art says about me I don't really know, but then that's the best way because as soon as you become too aware of what your doing it stops becoming art I guess
