Morph005 Sculpture

(Note that this is not a free-standing sculpture. It is 3D, but it is intended to be hung on a wall. It doesn't quite fit any of the Saatchi categories - painting, sculpture or installation.) I have long been fascinated by random shapes, such as islands. I am especially interested in shapes that result from an interaction between human agency and natural forces - e.g. the weathering of paint on a wall. I feel this intersection very strongly in the work of abstract impressionists and the Australian Aboriginal desert dot painters. Unusually, this one does have some intrinsic meaning: red dots are up quarks, green dots are down quarks and yellow dots are electrons. Hence this symbolises the Big Bang and the way protons, neutrons and electrons were formed. I hope viewers will be captivated by the fractal boundaries of the form itself, and the interaction of the dots with each other.
