This sculpture was inspired by the Chinese myth of Chan E. It is revered in Taoism as the goddess of the Moon. It is dedicated to the Mid-Autumn Festival, celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. According to the plot of the myth, Chang'e eats the elixir of immortality destined for her husband, and takes her to the moon, where she has been doomed to live since then ..
