Sculpture: Wood on .
Nicodean Apparatus 5 is part of my Geometric Apparatus series that are designed to test our notions of beauty in complex geometric forms. The twisting shapes of the wood become incomprehensible using euclidean notation so this device is designed to provide an antipositivist, abstract knowledge of how these geometries affect us emotionally. It is a wooden armature that supports 12 fully operational and tunable guitar type strings. Each string is attached at one end to its own tuning peg. 6 of the strings pass over 2 bridges. The bridges can be moved by two large wooden handles to alter the length and tension of the strings.
