Patxa Ibarz Gil Born in Zaragoza, Spain in 1975. She studied Fine Arts in Madrid where she graduated in 2002 specialising in Sculpture. Following this, she broadened her studies with several courses in Foundry, Stone, Writing & Architecture and Street Art. In between 2002 and 2007 she participated in collective exhibitions and competitions, where she received honorific mentions. In 2008 she, alongside Alba Odeh, were commissioned to design a monument in a public space in Valencia, Spain. During this period, she was developing her personal view on how we are made up of our own memories and experiences and how these form who we are. The desire to express this in her work led her to realise that our most intimate feelings are the most universal ones. In addition to her personal projects over the years Patxa was designing theatre sets, retail shopfronts and independent short film sets. This experience enriched her work process and still acts as an integral part of her work. In 2010, she moved to London where she began working as assistant sculptor for the artist Zadok Ben-David and the artist Philip King as well as collaborating on different artistic projects. Patxa’s work is directly related with space - interior and exterior, the presence and the absence with the attempt to create a place for emotions and reflection. She works with concrete, metal, wood, casting houses o drawing cities trying to make visible what is invisible. The last exhibitions where she participated was ¨ Us Ithers see us¨ in Robert Burns Museum, Ayr, Scotland, summer 2014 and “Home, soil and memory” in Idea Store Whitechapel, London, January 2015.
