About The Artwork

Growing up in Ceylon, and with frequent trips to rural countryside and visiting temples and ruins, I was fascinated by the beauty of ancient Ceylonese art, and the techniques they used to produce those works, and how they’re able to enchant the viewer are few reasons that led me to me further study in art and sculpture. including the Mayan culture and art, and south and Latin American art, which I’ve extensively studied growing up, being raised by a single mother, her personal life struggles, my feelings, being gay in a Anti-LGBTQ+ nation, and living in a patriarchal society hugely influenced my work, especially the current collection. This is my rendition of a strong, independent, emotional human being through sculpture and art. This particular piece embodies me. Bronze glazed stoneware, grey plaster. The dimensions listed are only of the mask itself. The dimensions of the black box frame with black or white, linen or velvet background are - CM, W 34 x H 47 x D 8

Born in Colombo,Sri Lanka in 1997 into an unconventional family. I began my education at Royal college continued till grade 10 and while I was studying for my A/L as a private candidate I started exploring art to express my repressed emotions and trauma I endured during my school years, and address social and political issues through art. My practice began when I enrolled for a two year art course in Colombo. My initial medium of expression were pen and paper. I furthered my exploration moving towards different mediums. In 2018, I joined a ceramic studio to explore 3D expression to prepare a portfolio for my application at art school in Italy. Unfortunately I couldn’t join the program due to the COVID-19. Therefore I resumed my personal work splitting my time between the studio and working at home. My work inspiration comes from familiar landscapes I grew up in countryside and my fascination with termite mounds and anthills.
