On Longing Sculpture

On Longing, was named after Susan Stewart’s book in which she explores narratives of the miniature and collections. Her ideas are obviously relevant to my work and she relates the miniature to the intimate. The piece is about loss and a longing for the past. I am drawn to cigarette cards, clock workings, small parts of things, screws, stamps, and so on, and I like to have a lot of them. Holding something small and old in the palm of my hand reminds me of my childhood and there is something comforting about that. I made the piece shortly after my dad had died and its full of things of his and my mum's and lots of photographs of them. It's a large piece in four parts and if bought I will install it.
