Part of my collection on Africa, inspired by the people who surround me, here in Morocco. The elongated style shows such emotion, and the rough welded surface brings the pieces to life. Welded metal with varnish on cream Tassa stone, which is native to Western Morocco, with a green baize under. The soft cream stone is a perfect foil to the rough texture of the figures. For interior display only.

Morocco
Born in North Wales, we moved abroad to live as a family, in Nigeria at an early age. It was here that I learnt to appreciate African art and culture, especially after visiting The Sacred Grove of Osun in Oshogbo. Susanne Wenger, the founder of the "New Sacred Art" movement, who lived there until her death in 2009, had a huge impact on me as did Giacometti. Now living in Morocco, I feel my art combines the simplicity and sinewy figures of Giacometti with the natural and organic forms often found in African masks and sculpture.
