One Global Human family Sculpture

We are living through a time of xenophobia and ultranationalism, especially here in the U.S. It is important for all caring persons to remind and re-affirm to the world that we are "One Global Human Family" and it is the responsibility of artists to endorse and enforce this message in their works. For many years, I produced abstract, "spatial", portraits in metal, but I was moved by the intricate and interesting pieces of Florida Oak, which is found lying in heaps after the local municipalities trim their prolific growth. The piece preserves some of the original dark brown under-bark layers and the different tones of sepia, beiges, yellows and even touches of amber which is a metaphor of the many hues of our family's skin tones; for we are not the harshness and starkness of "black" and "white" but rather a gradient of shades, light to dark. And the sculpture is not only constructed by the connection of pieces of wood, but also by the native and contrived shapes that populate the surface, much the same as the different skin tones of all our Brothers and Sisters that populate our exquisite planet.
