I live on the Kent coast and have a view of the sea from my studio. I love this as it constantly supplies me with a plethora of inspiring material from the ever changing light and atmospheric conditions to the abundance of gulls, birds, wildlife and interesting seaside structures. For drawing I use pen and ink, which I find an exacting and time consuming but satisfying medium for detail. My first choice of painting medium is gouache as it can be used in a myriad of different ways from thin washes to heavier, more dense, applications. depending upon what I am painting. Most of the time I build up colours in layers of varying density to achieve just the right result. For sculptures I use clay, normally with an overcoat of some description, which I find allows me to interpret the subject more emotionally rather than producing an emotionless, cold, static articles. I tend to be attracted to human poise and movement with my sculpting and this medium suits the application well.
