Art Description

Sculpture: Acrylic, 3D Sculpting on Other.

I am inspired by the natural creativity of Time worn geology. The idea that a being such as myself felt the same way thousands of years ago compelled me to pay homage to that ancient image. It is my hope that the viewer will feel that grand arch of time as well. It is a contrast in stillness and longevity to the sometimes transient and frenetic pressures of the present. According to ancient indigenous legends, these images represent visitations from star beings. In modern terms, extraterrestrial visitations. We must therefore come to our own conclusions. The material I chose to hand carve, sculpt and paint is eco-friendly and fire retardant, high density closed cell polyurethane. It is backed with thinly finished plywood, and fixed with flush mounted hanging hardwood blocks with 4000 lb. epoxy and 1000 lb. hanging rings. The art itself weighs approximately 12 lbs. This petroglyph was recently discovered only to be lost again under sand and ocean. My desire was to interpret the original geological surface that the ancient artist chose, rendering the unattainable attainable.
