The paradox of raising needed income to conserve animals and there habitat by allowing a tourist hunter to shoot one is a hotly contested argument The ambition by some to explore the experience of big game hunting, to pitch ones skills and experiences against a wild animal. Tracking and claiming a trophy to some is very appealing. However when a big game hunter was interviewed and asked why he stopped hunting, his answer was. ' To shoot a large animal with a modern gun, with telescopic sights, is like standing next to a field and shooting a domestic cow'. There are various sites on the web that offer hunting experiences. Providing all expenses included offers from airport to taxidermist. Some offer tailor made ' game hunting' where a whole array of animals are available from Kudu, Zebra to big cats like lion, cheetah and Leopard. Elephants are also very popular, and prices vary, a daily rate can cost $1150 and that's at a minimum of fourteen days. After exploring various sites I only found one that claimed that some of the money would be donated to a worthy conservation cause. They advertised a Cheetah hunt for $17.000 plus $1000 donation to Cheetah conservation. Poaching is eradicating various species, no more so than the worlds Rhinos. Last year WESSA ' The Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa' documented 1004 kills last year and 233 kills so far in 2014. Rhino poaching has been made a priority crime however since 2010 it has dramatically increased. Earlier this year Yamaha motor Corporation sponsored Dallas Safari Club allowing them to auction the rights to shoot a Black Rhino. This created a large public outcry and was featured on various protest sights like 'Causes', however the auction proceeded. However the outcome has still to unfold.

Passionate about ecology and humanity’s relationship with the natural world. My works are primarily sculptures and installations in mixed media, including bronze, resins and found objects. My work is purposefully paradoxical, aiming to challenge the viewer’s perceptions and assumptions, forcing them to form opinions. I engage audiences with complex moralities that arise through our day-to-day lives. Through the presentation of my ideas, I ask the question: “is this acceptable or not?” When encountering my work I hope to encourage my audience to then take some form of action, be it changing personal choices and habits, through to passing on the messages and participating in activism. I work for an interdisciplinary creative fabrication studio that is actively developing and sharing a model for a fully sustainable practice. We create artworks as individual artists and as a collective, that speak to the ecological crises. We also make work for other organisations and artists, helping them to achieve sustainable solutions for their ideas.
