ABOUT THE ARTWORK

~ Quintillions of Life ~ (A marriage of art and mathematics series) . "A Rubik’s cube has 43 quintillion permutations or arrangements of its constituent cubes. This series of cube arts by Jenny Hee metaphorically capture the infinitely many possibilities and challenges one can take in the journey of life. After all, a quintillion is the number 1 followed by 18 zeros, and a very long human life consists of 3 billion seconds, or the number 3 followed by only 9 zeros. Jenny’s cubes aptly interpret a typical life journey as a very small subset in a large universe of choices, actions, experiences, consequences, and indeed happiness, sadness, successes, failures, trepidations, triumphs, and more. The colors, textures and symbols of the facades express, both overtly and subtly, the sum total of life experiences. In particular, symbols such as cola, H2O, circles, dice, commercial brands, strips, to name a few, are imbued with meanings that a viewer can resonate with. Some facades are intentionally left empty, perhaps to evoke the feeling of less is more, or emptiness is fulfillment? Indeed, each facade is a statement of the choice one has made, and hints at a myriad of other choices that can be made with the twists and turns of Jenny’s cubes. What would be the consequences of these other choices? One cannot help but wonder if life is a puzzle on Jenny’s cubes. I am totally inspired by the imaginative creation of this series. It marries mathematics with art seamlessly. It provokes analytical thinking and sentimentalizes it with artistic beauty. It is indeed a sweet dream series." ~ By Dr MS Wu, art collector in Singapore ~ A sculpture of textured concrete, acrylic and wood.

A self-taught sculptor born in Miri, Sarawak Borneo but now based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Singapore. Previously an entrepreneur dealing with natural stones and veneer stones which I created for the interior design of residences and offices. Over the years, I have gained considerable experience working with these materials. In addition, I always have a great and unremitting passion for creating arts through dexterous manipulation of materials and structural forms. My goal is to create a colour of hope for humanity through arts, often at the periphery of seemingly boundless infinity. This hope is often expressed as an explosion of a spectrum of colours, each with its own strong vibrational energy. I like the viewers to experience this powerful feeling of continuous hope in their life’s journey. There is always hope at the turn of the road, at the next destination, at the darkest moment, at the lowest point, and at the end of a rainbow. I achieve my artistic goal through a fusion of colours, forms and textures. My preference is for stronger colours which can stir and resonate with the viewers’ emotions. Each colour has its own frequency and energy which evoke a feeling in a viewer. As for forms, I love working with intricate high and low reliefs, which significantly reinforce the three-dimensional visual and emotional effects. A viewer also experiences a temporal or flowing time effect as he moves his sight through and around the hills, valleys and mazes of my creation. Indeed, each hill, valley and maze have a unique sensibility as it is created with a harmonious balance of textures. This textural effect is brought upon by using materials such as natural stones, wood, concrete and metals. My artistic journey is to continue to the edge of a colourful and hopeful infinity!
