About The Artwork

"Rainbow Lady 1" is a combination of wood pulp, acrylic paint and concrete and was mounted on a steel base. The artist made the dress of "Rainbow Lady 1" with a self-developed wood pulp, which she laboriously produces from wood shavings and sawdust. She models her objects from this basic material - layer by layer, alternating with acrylic paint. This is an intensive process, as each layer involves a long drying time. Thin layers, starting from the core outwards, are modeled on top of each other, alternating between wood pulp and artist's acrylic paint in a rainbow-colored gradient, resulting in a cross-section reminiscent of a tree slice with the individual annual rings. A further intention is to return the wood remnants to their original form, the tree. A total of 84 layers, including 61 layers of paint and 23 layers of wood. Each work of art by the artist is unique. Sculpture for indoor use only.

« Art helps me to express myself when words are missing. It is my retreat and helps me to be with myself, to lose myself in my own world. » Sandra Brugger (*1986) is a freelance self-employed sculptress based in Austria whose works have been exhibited nationally, as well as in Germany and Italy. Through her works she processes experiences, emotions and situations that have touched her. The subjects and themes presented in Brugger's pieces are expansive and range from abstract shapes and nature, to humans. Her distinctive pieces are most often created using wood.
