About The Artwork

This work is part of the series "Cartographies of Gaia" and represents the problem that contemporary society is creating with the excess of garbage not reused and thrown in every corner of the planet. It is composed of a meat grinder painted with oil paint representing the universe (with the moon and the sun on its sides, Halley's Comet in the rear area, and the supernova explosion in the upper area). The meat grinder is on a computer board surrounded by a pile of debris, and on top of it the planet is being ground into garbage deposited on the world map as if it were just another material good discarded by mankind. At the base, all continents are painted realistically, and in the Gulf of Mexico there is a black ink pot representing the leakage of five million barrels of oil at sea caused by the explosion of the maritime platform “Deepwater Horizon” belonged to the English oil company British Petroleum (BP) and which resulted in the deaths of seven workers. At the base of the world map are two computer boards, sawn in the shape of a quarter of an arch and containing digitized images showing environmental pollution and burning of the Amazon rainforest.
