Detail of Sea Globe
Sea Globe
Sea Globes are a major part of my work and have sold internationally. Their influence comes from the shoreline where I live on the west coast of Pembrokeshire.

Perhaps of organic matter found in rock pools and waters edge or castaways from trading ships carrying valuable assets to France and beyond, Sea Globes have derived from that junction between land and sea where idle days are spent combing the seashore to see what the storm has delivered.

This large hand coiled Sea Globe, made of white earthenware clay, is not uniform in its spherical shape, is tactile and its colouring glows bright and bold.

The glazing contains various elements that provide a rich bronze, iron and dark stone colours to the surface of the Sea Globe. Finished in a beautiful copper lustre around the rim of the piece enhances the already dramatic colours of the work.

This large Sea Globe was made in my studio overlooking the sea on the west coast of Pembrokeshire, it is probably one of the finest and largest Sea Globes I have released for sale.

A British ceramic artist and studio potter based in Pembrokeshire on the west coast of Wales, United Kingdom. Richard's work is influenced by the stunning coastal setting of his studio and the connection to its industrial past. Some of Richard's work has been described as abstract impressionism using ceramics as his vehicle to evoke a feeling or essence of what exists in his coastal environment. Whereas some work pushes the boundaries into pop art and pop ceramics. Richard has a genuine interest in architecture and this is reflected in the strong forms he creates with clay.
