Selfie-ism Sculpture

A low relief, polychromed wood sculpture carved in maple and finished in oil paint. It is ready to hang on the wall, weighing about 7 pounds. I was inspired to try carving a low relief in wood after being introduced to the work of Antonio Lopez Garcia in the same medium. Having grown up in a wood shop, I spent some time carving scraps I had been given by my father. Again, as in most of my other work, the feeling is a bit "un-real", a women standing, holding her breasts, surrounded by bubbles with a couple of fish and some bread. Ultimately, I wanted the image to serve as though it were a mirror and it was the viewer standing in front of it, reflecting on him or her "self".
