Shell Form Sculpture

Peter Tysoe is an artist and designer-maker, who established a multi media design and production studio at Dartington, Devon, England, in the 1960's. His personal works, exhibited widely in the UK, Europe and the US, reflect the influence of early cultures, gained from travels to Greece as a student – e.g., Tholoi series later resulting from a visit to Mycenae. Early in his artistic career he was an invited member of the Penwith Society of Arts, exhibiting in their St. Ives gallery with Hepworth, Leach, and other members of the group. During this period he had a solo show at the Plymouth City Art Gallery; and was an invited exhibitor in the Henry Rothschild collection at Kettles Yard, Cambridge, and other galleries. Inclusion of glass elements in his sculptural work led to an involvement in the early studio glass movement in the 70's, when he set up a hot glass studio in Dartington, Devon – developing individual vessel and cast sculptural forms, exhibiting in major exhibitions and galleries in the UK and abroad. Moving to Adelaide, S. Australia, in 1985 resulted in his work being included in the Australian National Glass Collection, NSW, the New Parliament House collection in Canberra, the Art gallery of South Australia, and regional and individual collections. The contrast between the verdant landscapes of coastal areas, and the dramatic landforms of Australia is influential in his work – particularly in his “Cire Perdue” [lost wax] cast forms relating to the “red centre”. One of 7 glass artists, Peter Tysoe's works were shown in a travelling exhibition, “Art Glass form Australia” in 1990, to major galleries in Europe. His glass and steel “Andamooka Man”was purchased for the collection in the Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Lausanne. Returning to UK in 2000, His work has continued to be exhibited in UK and Australia.
