Skeletal Sculpture

This elegant small sculpture has a skeletal feel to it, with thin ridges and smooth surfaces. It is made out of durable stoneware and is a unique addition to a desk, side table, or book shelf in a room with a modern or minimal aesthetic. I create abstract ceramic artworks inspired by cellular and netlike patterns and forms in nature. My favorite sources of inspiration are coral, honeycomb, tafoni, mycelium, and cactus skeletons. I create each sculpture from one ball of clay, shaping it and then meticulously hand-carving it until I reach a desired outcome. Each piece is then glazed simply in satin white, to keep the emphasis on the form. I enjoy the malleability of the medium and the ability to emulate patterns and structures found in nature.
