Skull No12 Sculpture

"Resurrection” series talk about how we as human tend to regard ourselves as a superior race. But the COVID-19 pandemic has helped us understand that we are just like any other race, vulnerable to extinction. COVID-19 brought a lot of death but has also changed the world in a positive way such as the ozone layer fixing, reduce global warming, etc. Because of that, human needs to change their view and respect other animals to live together in harmony. The work shows the long steadfast journey of humanity from beginning to end, passing through five phases of Water - Fire - Wood - Metal – Earth, then finding itself at an end station fulfilling with satisfaction. We, instinctively, picture it with the image of a skull. It is the perfect representation of resurrection; death is not the end but the beginning of a new journey. The material to form the skulls is earth, the central element, covered with a variety of glazes, making this set a vanitas that has a sprinkle of contemporaneousness.
