SQUARE TORO Sculpture

The quest to work more environmentally friendly. With “Square Toro” I made use of Sandstone to see how it would react with molten Bronze. This sculpture, abstracted, is a bull. Association with a bull varies from culture to culture, as art is different for each and every person. “Square Toro” is also a decorative piece, where the medium and method will start likely debate. Geologist will find this piece especially interesting. On my quest to work environmentally friendly the need to work with different types of rock was automatic. Here I chose Sandstone, firstly because it is a softer stone, which lends itself to be carved. I did carve on the stone as well for this piece. Noticeably/hindsight - Sandstone is not ideal for the proses. I needed to make use of epoxy putty to fill in the cavity’s that appeared after the casting, these I covered with gold leaf. The horns as well is made with epoxy putty covered in gold leaf.
