About The Artwork

Description: Sculpted form in terracotta. The helmet is a metaphor for the neighbourhood I live in. The work exists as a memento of our local history, its struggling evolvement and fragmented adaptation to change. To be viewed and interpreted much like an artifact in a museum, each piece encapsulates a vein of the narrative. Year Created: 2010

I have recently graduated with a 1st Class Honours BA Ceramics from UWIC, Cardiff. I am now developing my work with a view to show at galleries and enter international competitions.
My visual research and exploration into my chosen material, paperclay, has given me an inspirational resource from which to draw for future work. I intend to develop other ideas I have in my sketchbooks, but this method of making monumental forms from small fragments has enormous potential for future development. I also want to explore the relationship of vessel forms and surface texture further. This might be a possible investigation for my MA. I have also gained a regard for the surface of unadulterated clay and intend to develop and hone this aspect of my work.
