ABOUT THE ARTWORK

It is one of my platonic solids inspired by mathematical elaborations of Luca Pacioli and the geometric structures of Leonardo da Vinci. Fascinated by the Icosahedron as well as the Duodecedron matured in the field of Renaissance culture, I knit them triangular which, in homage to classical culture, are the result of a new research that brings together, again once upon a time, the discoveries made through the observation of nature and through the history study. In the solids, with a dense texture, solids and voids alternate rigorously geometric, amplified in the plastic rendering by delicate patinas. the Study on the Platonic Solid 2 is a conceived work thinking of the climate of research, comparison and dialogue that flourished in Central Italy, at the illuminated courts of that time.

Giovanni Rotondo was born in November 1964 in Rosolini, a small town in the south east of Sicily. He started learning the first rudiments of forging and tempering when he was just a child and worked in his father’s smithy. In 1980 he attended a vocational training school where he learned different techniques to weld metals. From 1986 to 1992 he worked, as a welder, in a petrochemical industry and this experience allowed him to extend his professional competences. In 1993 Giovanni Rotondo started his own craft producing ,mainly, wrought iron furnishings. Since 2003 he has been working as a “sculptor in metal”. He is married and has got a son. He lives and works in Rosolini. Giovanni Rotondo has exhibited his works in lots of cities in Italy and abroad, meeting with great success everywhere. His wrought iron sculptures belong to prestigious private collections. “The Sicilian GIOVANNI ROTONDO has become well-known, above all, for the original adaptations, in his works of art, to the natural forms of marine and terrestrial fauna typical of the Mediterranean area. But, his craft is not restricted to the work of sculpture; it also covers the fields of the metal design and carpentry, drawing for his clients new works, of great and undisputed originality. Moreover, it is noteworthy that Giovanni Rotondo is the artist who won the first title as “WORLD CHAMPION IN FORGING “in 2003 in Stia (AR).”
