Sculpture, Marble on Glass
Size: 30 W x 30 H x 70 D in
Ships in a Crate
75 lbs. of ferrocement...The custom mix that I created for this sculpture actually contains aragonite sand, white silica sand, 3/4 inch alkaline resistant glass fibres, perlite, white portland cement, water, cement bond admixture, eco-friendly concrete sealer, alkaline resistant powdered paint, all over a galvanized chicken wire form created with over 25 feet of shaped chicken wire mesh, tied together, with some coated steel wire for support... Trumpeter Swans have been released into the wild in ONtario in 2007...They were part of a restoration project...From November to April volunteers feed them in the cold winter...I feed them wild bird seed...I have also woven them nests of Sisal rope & the sculpture was born of a desire for a nesting place signifier...

Joseph & Sari Grove have been feeding swans along the shores of Lake Ontario...They are members of The Waterbird Society & The Trumpeter Swan Society...Swans, & other waterbirds like Canada Geese, Ducks, Seagulls, Herons & Pigeons, are really enjoying freeze-dried corn, which is a nice snack for humans too, & it floats...The newest work in progress is a Venn Diagram-like style with a family of four swans, which should take half a year more to complete, in walnut oils on linen, at 36 by 48 inches...(sorry, I learned Imperial before Metric)...Update: The Trumpeter Swans seem to enjoy bird seed...Next I am going to try them on sunflower seeds...Still working on a pre-made swan nest idea...
