About The Artwork

As an artistic practice my work explores the vectors of alliance and conflict between human rationalization and an approach to art which correlates to the scientific method defined since the 17th century as a 'systematic observation, measurement, experiment, and the formulation of questions or hypotheses.' The isolation, aesthetics, and mystery inherent in both art and science establish my artistic practice. My current work using the practice of lab glass blowing provides for an intellectual experiment in abstraction using traditional scientific tools and procedures. The objects themselves are presented as correlating to the practice of hypothesis, experiment, and results. The final lab fetish is presented; as if the apparatus were its own result. Presenting a sociologically normative correlation between form, color, and function; with the function eliciting an abstraction of social, scientific, and representational constructs. Using tactile and analog methods the objects impose an otherworldly; yet fundamentally terrestrial meaning. -Yaranoff
